There’s been a lot of leadership talk in the news this week. Â With Hobby Lobby’s case coming before the Supreme Court, and World Vision’s statement about their policy change, discussion has been rampant on the web and around the water coolers. Â I’d like to ask a simple question as we think about these things.
It comes from a series we did at Southview last fall, called Christian, looking at John 13:35 and what it truly means to be a follower of Jesus: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (NIV)
I gave SCCers a question to use in cases just like this week’s discussions:
“What does love require of me?”
Though it may not have been the specific question in their minds, as followers of Jesus the owners of Hobby Lobby, the Green family, are acting in response to their answer to that question. Â As followers of Jesus, the board members of World Vision are acting in response to their answer to that question.
As you and I reflect on these leadership decisions, as we reflect on what it means to be followers of Jesus, as we engage with those around us in discussions of these current issues and events, keep that question in mind.
What does love require of you?
