If you’re interested in more details, just reply to this email with TEAM TURNAROUND and I’ll share more details (or please share this email with someone you know that might need this).

1 Story That Make Me Think

From his book The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork – John Maxwell recounts:

“Teams that win have players that continually ask themselves, “What’s best for the rest?” They continually set aside their personal agendas for the good of the team. Their motto can be expressed by the words of Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald’s, who said, “No one of us is more important than the rest of us.”

A remarkable sports story from several years ago was the success of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team. They won the Olympic gold medal and the World Cup in a few brief years. A key player on that team was Mia Hamm. In her book, Go For The Goal, she gives her perspective on her sport and the attitude a player must bring into the game to achieve the goal of becoming a champion. She said, “Soccer is not an individual sport. I don’t score all the goals, and the ones I do score are usually the product of a team effort. I don’t keep the ball out of the back of the net on the other end of the field. I don’t plan our game tactics. I don’t wash our training gear (okay, sometimes I do), and I don’t make our airline reservations. I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team. I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.”

Does your team understand this principle? Do you as the leader? Teamwork can be challenging, and it’s way too easy to drift into unhealthy spaces where we forget the value of each member of the team, whether they are in the spotlight or not.

What’s your intentional plan to develop your team?

What are you doing to grow your ability and capacity to lead your team with excellence?

You never drift into excellence. You always drift into mediocrity.

And that inspires no one.
